10 New Hall of Fame Inductees
On August 25th we inducted ten more outstanding athletes to the North Side High School Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony was preceded on Friday night when we introduced the inductees at the football game. Then on Saturday morning we held a breakfast in their honor. Immediately, afterwards we assembled in the auditorium for the ceremony.

- The first inductee was Archie Adams from the class of 1950. He was represented by his son Jeffrey Adams. Archie was recognized for his outstanding running in cross country and track, especially in the 220 high hurdles. He is still the record holder for that event. Archie passed away in2015
- George Taylor graduated with the class of 1955. George excelled in three sports: Cross Country, Basketball, and Track. Notably, he was named to the All Sectional, All Regional, and All State teams in basketball. In addition he was a major contributor to the cross country and basketball teams that were sectional, regional, and semi-state champions
- Brad Bendure was represented by his wife Nancy is also a North Side grad. He graduated with the class of 1961. Brad was a four year starter on the football team, and he held the best times in high and low hurdles in the state his senior year. In his senior year he was undefeated until he injured his hip before the state meet.
- The next inductee was Steve Bulmahn. He starred in basketball and track while at North Side. He graduated in the class of 1965. Steve is one of the few athletes in North Side history to have been a part of two teams, basketball and track, that competed at the state level. He was on the half mile relay team that won the state championship.
- Tim Zumbaugh graduated with the class of 1971. He was a vital member of the cross country team that won the state title in 1968 as well placing 2nd and fourth at the state meet in the mile run. He held the school records in both the mile and two mile runs. In college he twice qualified for the NCAA finals
- George Sweigert who graduated with the class of 1978 was unable to attend the ceremony was represented by classmate Dave Graney. In his years at North Side he competed in Basketball and Golf. In his senior year he led the basketball team to a number one ranking in the state and was named to the All State team. Later he was named to the 2003 Indiana State Silver Anniversary Team.
- The next honoree was Steve Nelson. Steve was a star athlete in four sports in his years at North. He graduated with the class of 1978. He played Football, Basketball, Baseball, and ran Track. Notably, he was an All State player on the football team and a member of the basketball team that was ranked number one in the state.
- Katie Bruening is a member of the 1994 graduating class. She competed and excelled in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. She is the all-time leading female basketball scorer and the only female Redskin basketball player to score over 1000 points. In addition she achieve All SAC honors in all three sports.
- Two Redskin coaches were honored at the ceremony. The first was Ry Taliaferro who taught and coached volleyball at North Side from 1973-2010. He registered the most wins as a coach in the history of volleyball at North Side. Three of North Side’s Hall of Fame members were on his teams.
- Finally, Don Hunter was honored as a coach as well. Don taught and coached at North Side from 1967-2002. He was known to all as a Football and Wrestling Coach, but he has been much more than that. He has helped out with all sports even in retirement. He also coached four or North Side’s Hall of Famers in wrestling. In 1988 Don was named as an assistant coach for the Indiana State All Star football game, and in 2005 he also named to the Indiana High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.
